NO EMAIL FRIDAY: Luminess (formerly Jouve) continues its initiative

Paris- on 27/01/2021 - Every day, 10 billion emails are sent in one hour worldwide, which corresponds to 4000 round trips Paris/New York knowing that 80% of them are never open. A single email produces no less than 10g of CO2, or even 19g if accompanied by an attachment, making its environmental impact considerable.

To fight against this silent but very real pollution, Luminess (formerly Jouve) is continuing the “No Email Friday” approach initiated on September 1, 2019, when the pandemic disrupted our lifestyles and work with a massive use of telework. Indeed, at Luminess, in accordance with the recommendations of the health protocols issued by the government, 410* employees have been teleworking on our sites in France since the entry into force of the second confinement, on October 29 at midnight.

As a reminder, No Email Friday encourages employees not to send internal emails on Friday and to favor other means of communication. This aims to strengthen the link between employees and create a stronger relationship, but also to question the relevance of the email we want to send and the people we copy. This virtuous approach for employees responds more broadly to environmental issues by limiting CO2 emissions and being part of a green IT approach.

We had to reinvent ourselves, as Pascal Manczyk, Group HR Director, emphasizes:
« This context of health crisis which has led us to massively generalize teleworking is not a favorable period for this type of device. Nevertheless, it is an opportunity to encourage our employees to communicate differently, such as calling by teams, by telephone, using our corporate social network, etc. All these tools allow more direct contact between our employees. It is all the more important to continue this process, at this time when some employees may feel isolated. ».

When the system was put in place, in 6 months we had reduced messaging traffic by 15 to 20% on Friday, which represents a saving of 37 kg of CO2. In 2021, we must amplify this trend and continue our efforts in this direction!
« Even if the health and economic situation left little room for this type of approach, it is important to continue to make our employees aware of Green IT, which is at the heart of our CSR approach. The vision of Tech4Good is particularly close to our hearts and it must be continued », Explains Thibault Lanxade, CEO of the group.
