Our environmental policy

Backed by its potentially polluting historical activity, printing, Luminess has always paid particular attention to the impact of its activity. Now a 100% digital company, the Group naturally places CSR at the heart of its strategy, in connection with its activity the processing of data and its quieter pollution that represents the digital.

In order to go further in our commitments and to respond to urgent issues, in 2022 the Group set up a ambassador for energy sobriety from the month of September and set up a energy sobriety plan. This plan aims to reduce energy consumption by 15% by 2023, thus going beyond the ambitions set by the government. As a major digital player, it was necessary to take into account the impact of its businesses in the development of the plan, and is based on 4 strong pillars:

  • Improve the energy efficiency of our data centers by 15% annually
  • Reduce the energy consumption of our sites by 15% in 2023 and an additional 15% in 2024
  • Improve our carbon footprint, linked to our mobility, by notably increasing the use of soft mobility solutions by 15%
  • Limit our digital pollution by reducing the sending of our emails by 15% per year

Chairman and CEO of the Luminess Group

I am personally committed to implementing the necessary means and I hope that all the teams are fully involved in this collective project which constitutes a strong commitment for the future of our Group.

Strengthen our Green IT approach

By developing eco-design

Saving energy comes first and foremost through design of our infrastructure and software. We monitor the power, heat generation and footprint of servers to optimize our technologies as much as possible. For our software, we make the choice of technologiesrennes and efficient:

  • Dynamic adaptation of the platforms to the load, until complete extinction in the event of non-use

  • Implementation of caches to limit redundant calculations

  • Limiting the use of unnecessary dependencies

With regard to our infrastructures, we select equipment to improve our energy consumption and our CO2 emissions: in particular, we use hyperconvergence technology which allows the highest density of virtual machines on the market.

To go even further in the process, the Luminess Group is signatory of the Planet Tech'Care charter since 2021. This charter makes it possible to support companies that are part of a responsible digital approach, which undertake in particular to measure and reduce the environmental impacts of their digital products and services, and to raise awareness among employees so that everyone contributes to reducing environmental pollution. impact of digital technology on the environment.

By reducing the sending of our emails

Every day, 10 billion emails are sent in one hour worldwide, which corresponds to 4000 round trips Paris/New York knowing that 80% of them are never open. A single email produces no less than 10g of CO2, or even 19g if accompanied by an attachment, making its environmental impact considerable.

To fight against this silent pollution, we have set up since 2019 on “No Email Friday”, an approach that encourages employees not to send e-mails internally on Fridays and to favor other means of communication.

Reducing the sending of emails is part of our incentive agreements. Mailings are measured each month to meet this strong ambition.

By optimizing consumption in our Data Centers

Controlling the energy consumption of our data centers is essential. This requires optimal use of energy.

  • Server temperature is regulated : internal cooling is done according to the calculation load, the disks are stopped during periods of inactivity, the temperature is adapted to the seasons (summer / winter), and the air conditioning has been lowered by 1° in our data centers .

  • At the same time, we have increased the number of Nutanix nodes to reduce the consumption of our servers, and we have partitioned our data centers to Mayenne.

By giving a second life to our IT equipment

We have implemented an eco-responsible and united approach by making donation of our computer and electronic equipment to our employees on our sites Mayenne, Lens, Rennes et Paris, or associations. An approach is carried out in an ethically responsible framework, and the material given is completely erased.

The Group has also partnered with a operation organized by the CCI Mayenne and Orange which allows redistribute obsolete mobile hardware of the company and that of our employees. The equipment is repackaged in an integration workshop in France, a member of the Emmaüs Movement, then resold in an emerging country as a second-hand model. Otherwise, it is recycled, the hazardous materials treated and the metals recovered. THE profits from the operation are donated to Emmaus International which uses these funds to create mobile waste collection workshops in different African countries. Another partnership with Emmaüs.

A responsible and united approach

Develop green goodies

A process initiated in 2021

On all of our HR fairs

The objective of this eco-responsible approach is to rethink the “traditional” goodies, and to trade it in favor of a more sustainable approach for associations whose activities are in line with that of our society, and in line with the Group's challenges.

3 combinations to choose from

Emmaüs Connect for digital inclusion, Femmes@Numériques for professional diversity and a French foundation for the environment

Operation is simple: visitors are invited to vote on platform created by our teams for one of these associations, and the company undertakes to pay back a sum supplemented in proportion to the number of votes.

Reduce our energy consumption at our sites

With a goal of –15% of our energy consumption by the end of 2023, we have implemented a series of measures for our sites.

Temperature optimization

Lighting optimization

Insulation of our premises from Paris

Optimization of occupied and therefore heated surfaces

Relocation of certain sites to less energy-intensive sites in 2023 and 2024

Promote soft and sustainable mobility

We also want to improve our carbon footprint by reducing mobility when possible and otherwise favoring soft mobility.

Increase our cycling community* by 15% in 2023

This community is present on all of our sites, and was founded on the initiative of employees. An initiative that the Luminess Group supports and which benefits the health of our employees and the planet.

*employees who travel by bicycle to get to their place of work

Promote measures encouraging carpooling

For example, an agreement has been signed between the site of Mayenne and Klaxit, which allows site employees to discover or develop carpooling between their home and their place of work, while being paid!

Generalize telework

Allow 3 days a week of remote work for employees who wish.

Reduce our waste

We aim to reduce by another 20% the volume of our household waste for the year 2023. To do this, we have made sorting and processing our waste a priority. All of our waste (electrical and electronic, paper, ink cartridges, etc.) is collected by dedicated service providers and subsidiaries.
